Atlanta Pet Sitters
Atlanta
has been a leading
city in the country for the growth and development of professional pet sitting.
Atlanta
pet sitters first began offering services in the 1970s, when few people had
heard of the service. Most pet
owners who traveled depended on friends or took their pets to the vet or to the
kennel.
Atlanta
pet sitters provided an alternative that avoided pet owners feeling obligated
to their friends and neighbors and that was considerably more convenient,
especially for frequent travelers.
During
the last decades of the 20th century Atlanta
grew rapidly. As the population
more than doubled, the suburbs spread, and virtually every lot inside the
Perimeter was developed, the city attracted many transient professionals.
As new residents they often had no local friends and didn’t know their
neighbors.
Atlanta
pet sitters were an attractive option, especially for those who used the
convenience of Hartsfield to travel regularly.
The
ups and downs in the local economy led more people without work to enter the
field and allowed established
Atlanta
pet sitters to grow their businesses. The
Critter Sitters way of doing business and its continued growth and success
served as a model for many of the new
Atlanta
pet sitters, and the company has maintained its leadership both in
Atlanta
and the country.
As
professional pet sitting grew as an industry nationwide,
Atlanta
pet sitters participated in the creation and growth of various industry
associations. Critter Sitters has
been a leader in these organizations.. Both
some of its sitters and its President have served on the board of directors of
The National Association of Professional Pet Sitters www.petsitters.org.
And Critter Sitters is a member of the Georgia Network of Professional Pet
Sitters. These organizations and
others provide education and information to increase the professionalism of pet
sitters, promote the idea of pet sitting to the public and advocate for the
welfare of all animals. To get a pet sitter, click
